Why Force-Free?

I'm an advocate for force-free training mainly because aversive methods have so many potential side effects. It's easy for a dog to create negative associations towards anything - kids, the reach of a hand, other dogs - all by poorly-timed yank or shock. This can lead to aggression, fear, and a whole host of other problems. These tools treat symptoms. They don't address the "why" of the problem. There is so much science-based information out there. It's difficult to see it through the fog of what's shown on television, but it's out there.
